Home municipality information
Home municipality information for degree students (studying in Lahti at least for 2 years)
If you have recently moved to Lahti from abroad, please notice that it is recommendable to request Lahti as your municipality of residence. It provides you a right to use public healthcare services at the same price with regular municipalities.
How can you get a home municipality?
When you move to Finland from abroad, you must always visit a Local Register Office (Maistraatti, Kirkkokatu 12 B) in person to be assigned a home municipality.
What documents do you need?
When you visit Local Register office to request a home municipality, you should have the following documents with you:
- your passport (If you are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, an official photo ID issued by your state of nationality will be accepted instead of a passport)
- your residence permit card or other proof that you have entered the country legally
- a study certificate if you are a student in Finland
- address in Lahti
- rental agreement with your own name.
